well, lets see....what happened yesterday? mainly watching rita move farther east, hearing our houston and beaumont offices were being closed (i think our beaumont office could very possibly be our new orleans at the moment...m.i.a.), keeping in close contact with friends and family who evacuated. some, like allison left very early and i'm sure is thankful for that, some, like my little kelli, left and didn't get to austin until 24 hours later, another example of this is borrego's fam. le sigh. i am just praying that things withhold this bitch of a storm and my friends have homes to go back to. these things are just totally crazy. not to mention the crazies buying gas (although with the way it could hit, it could damage SEVERAL serious refineries, which means bad things for gas, or at least that's what i'm being told to think) and water and food, my dad said our randalls was BARE. i told him to just buy some ice cream and beer, i bet THOSE things were still around...but then ...maybe not ;)
my mom has been in california for the past 3 days at a seminar, and was supposed to fly into houston last night. apparently, the continental people told her (and others) that if they were on their way out to another city, they were on their own. b/c there were no rental cars, no gas, nothing. niice, thanks. so my mother, although on the entire different end of the country has felt the repercussions of this. please don't ever fly continental, they told her they couldn't get her here until saturday at 4am....hmm, RIGHT when the hurricane is supposed to make landfall, what idiots, nor bothered to give a voucher or help them...when she asked what she was supposed to do from then (7pm - friday @ 8pm) the lady told her: "i don't know. sit down?" what happened to customer service? anyways, she was beyond frustrated, obviously and finally went to american and they got her on a red eye last night (or this morning @ 3am), she just got in an hour ago, i'm sure she is exhausted. poor mom. but AT LEAST she's home in austin and not stranded in houston. see this damn bitch is affecting people EVERYWHERE!!
yesterday i had to meet with the security system people and i was late (of course, he was early/ontime) and he's getting ready to set it up and asks me to use my phone, i was like "cell phone?"...no, apparently you need a LANDline to set up service...oh REALLY? b/c my sales guy never told me that. i could set up a wireless service for $8 more a month...i talked to my sales guy and he said he would "try" to get his boss to give it to me for the other price, but apparently he didn't try hard enough, and he was like, what's your decision? i'm like no! i need to think about this. fuck, i have to learn how to budget so i can decide, PLUS the guy left me the stickers, i could very well just put them on my windows for show, at least for awhile, and i'll be getting a dog soon. whatever, stupid ADT.
on another sucky ass note, because of the hurricane scare, our houston office was closed yesterday and today which means accounting (based in houston) didn't send out our checks...niiice. so my advance to the working world of today is, if you don't have direct deposit, GET IT! this is ridiculous, because i thought, well whatever, good thing i still live with the parents for the weekend?...but seriously, ALL my bills are done on the 1st...so that's AWESOME. fuck.
well, kelli was thinking about staying at my house last night, but she ended up going straight to pflugerville, and so we will be hanging out tonight. i think i'll buy her a drink, Lord knows she needs one. anyways, if anyone ELSE needs a drink, i think going out tonight would be definitely worth it. also, i'm debating on going to saturday ACL, so if you need tickets... we'll see, i'm debating.
anyways, the main thing is that people i know from the coast are safe and that makes me glad, but i am still praying for our entire coast. hurricanes are funny creatures. ...(are they considered creatures?)
