hello all,
well this past weekend,. chris and i went to nola for our one year anniversary trip. we road-tripped it the 8ish hours to nola on friday morning (early) and it was really fun. we stopped in baton rouge for lunch and talked and listened to good music. good to know long trips in a car can be handled in good fun. we got to nola, checked into our cute little hotel and immediately took a nap. after that, showered and went to dinner at this place called red fish grille. it was so great! i had some really good blackened catfish and chris had some sesame tuna thing, so good! after that we just walked around bourbon for awhile, it's so nice to be there and it NOT be mardi gras, although i would recommend possibly NOT going in the summer months, we were both sweating a lot, it was gross. finally we decided AC would be good so we found this little restaurant that served some wine and sat there for awhile, then went back to the hotel and the pool.
saturday we woke up and were totally starving so we walked to find mother's which is this good little po'boy place that everyone knows about (i went with my mom in feb) and it IS good but there is always a line, so after walking a billion blocks and seeing the line and being famished, we decided to go BACK to the french quarter and find a place to eat, the place we found was probably just the same and it was just perfect. allt his time, grossly sweating. i really wanted to go to the aquarium and it seemed like a good idea to spend a few hours in there in the AC, so we did that for awhile, which was really fun, then walked down to the french market area. i didn't mean to be grumpy but i was grossly sweating and so was chris, and decided that the pool would be the best option, we'd walked all over anyway. so we went swimming for awhile to cool off, then got ready to go out to dinner. we ended up going back to the place we had wine the night before, called orleans vineyard, it was SO cute and romantic and quaint and the food was a-maz-ing, i had this crab stuffed flounder with some sort of crawfish sauce on top, it was delicious! (can you see why i've gained 5lbs since he's been back?) anyway, we sat there for awhile and drinking our wine and finally decided to leave and go walk around royal street, where they had this thing called dirty linen night where all the art shops and galleries stay open late and you can go in and talk to the artists and stuff, it was really fun. then we decided to go to pat o'briens and partake in hurricanes, we were there for a while too. i mean once you're walking and drenched in sweat, all you want to do is sit down and pat o's wasn't even air conditioning, so for those of you who've seen the pics know why i looked sweaty all the time. (because i was, gross). anyway it was a good night.
sunday we walked around again for some souveniers and then headed back to town. we were goign to go to cafe du monde b/c chris thought they might have other things besides beignets (they don't.) so we ended up just eating on the way back to texas. we stopped in houston to have dinner with shea, ramzi, lid and zeyad which was really fun, and then kept on trucking through to austin. i was so exhausted but it was so fun! i'm really glad we took a few days to get away and just be US, it was really great. i honestly didn't want to come back...kind of like when i was in paris. awww....
so chris leaves on sunday but i leave on saturday for vegas, which i'm really excited about. he'll be back for labor day weekend and then probably the weekend of the 15th and then i'm up there on the 21st. :)
last night we ended up going to ramzi and shafts to play guitar hero, we'd never played before and i wanted to see what alll the hype was about, it is kind of fun, my fingers and arms kind of hurt, but we apparently, are both naturals. i had a lot of fun! haha. anyway tonight i'm taking him to dinner for his birthday (it's on monday) and just hanging out.
