"leaving on a jet plane..."--chantal kreviazuk
so the weekend was really good, it felt really long (possibly because i took friday off, but oh well), but that was a good thing considering chris left today :( boo. fortunately i will see him in 2 months when i go to visit him in bahrain! crazy! who would have thought i would be back in the middle east...just can't stay away i guess, haha.
so on friday, we got up and went straight to the church to talk to the deacon about getting married there, everything seemed to go fine, the date is available, we have an officiant (the priest who confirmed us both in saudi) and we do have to take classes and oddly enough have to get our baptism certificates...which we have to get new copies off from whatever church we were baptized in, which is supposedly supposed to have the other dates of our other Catholic sacraments...? really? anyway, hopefully they do, i don't know what happens if they don't. not to mention I actually received communion in an Episcopalian church...hmmm...I guess we shall see. Also, we can't use CD music! this was sort of a bummer, but as I've been told, pick and choose the battles...the fact that I can probably find beautiful music that can be played by a piano really isn't the worst thing that can happen...even if i had already decided how the entire ceremony music was going to go...oh well.
then we went to search out reception sites...we went to the omni first which wasn't even on our list but chris said we should check it out...it was perfect, just what we were looking for, but we had 2 other places to check out, which were the hyatt and the mansion on judges hill. the hyatt just wasn't what we wanted and the mansion is so beautiful but i think our guest list should be a little smaller before we choose that one. we were both unanimous on the omni and so right now we have a one week hold while i get the details straight with my parents and put down a deposit. i. am. so. excited. (and relieved!) no more nightmares about reception sites!! ...(ok, bring on the issues right now)
saturday we went to the bridal extravaganza with my mom and chris' mom and sister (yes, even chris went)...and thank goodness he went, he was my sanity...the only thing the extravaganza helped me with was setting up appointments to try on dresses and finding 50 photographers after realizing i have known who i wanted to use the entire time and a DJ. it's ok though, it was very well worth it to get all of that...i may have gotten a bit stressed out a few times, but it was ok. after that, our dads came to meet us and we all had dinner at casa garcia's. yum! we hung out for a little bit and organized wedding stuff and then went out to the marq. i really love the marq, the DJ has been great both times i've been there, unfortunately it gets very crowded around 1ish, but music is still good, plus i saw both the bachelor and his twin brother, duh, they own it. chris and i stayed there for a little bit and then went to the stephen f. austin to have a last moment at the place of our engagement lol, we had some wine and then went back to pick up his sister and then went home.
sunday, we went to church, breakfast and then to run errands, i had to check out the church and the sun at 2pm because that was the other issue i had with the church, the ceremony times were only at 10am, 2pm or 7pm. boo. if i have one at 2pm, and it's Catholic, we're still having a night wedding, giving any out of town guests time to leave back to SA or enjoy the night life of austin. (wedding at 2pm, over at 3pm, reception from 5pm - 9pm=night) so i had to check the sun out, ..oh the little things. we went over to see my parents so chris could say bye and then went back to chris' so he could finish packing. boo.
this morning we all woke up really early to take chris to the airport, we had 3 cars haha, b/c i had to go to work and so did his dad. chris has 5 suitcases (plus shipment), 3 of which were overweight which they were going to charge him $50 each for...his mom moved 2 tshirts and a book and voila, he only had one oversized suitcase...crazy. i didnt' cry too much when he left, but the first night is always the hardest :(.
also, i am moving out of my house this weekend into my parents house, the lady who has been living with my mom is now going to live in my house (we're doing a house swap haha), so i can save money and my dad doesn't lose his sanity...on a high note, the for lease sign we put up brought in about 15 phone calls so i am not worried about leasing it again. ok so i have so much work to do! but wanted to keep everyone updated with the wedding details...
